VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, and it offers advantages regular local phone service can't match.
The biggest benefit of VoIP is a lower monthly fee for your phone service and savings on your long distance charges. Since VoIP is transmitted over the Internet, you can make and receive calls anywhere in the world you can connect to a highspeed Internet connection. Any calls made or received from your local calling area will be treated as local calls, saving you the long distance fees.
Customer must request that Long Distance be enabled. $25 set-up fee applies. All packages and prices are subject to change without notice and do not include applicable taxes. A high speed internet connection with a minimum 1.5 Mbps connection and a wireless router are required for WTC VoIP service. Service is available only where technology permits. Please contact Technical Support for more information.
Unlike a traditional phone line, a VoIP phone has "no fixed address." It is completely portable, and can be taken with you and used anywhere there is a high speed connection. When you dial 911 with a VoIP service, your call will be connected to a national 911 operator who will require that you confirm your calling location in order to connect you to the closest 911 call centre. Although the registered 911 emergency address on file will be seen by the operator, you must verbally provide your present location to the operator. If you are travelling with your WTC VoIP service and require 911 but are unable to speak, we recommend that you use an alternate 911 service (such as a cell phone or land line) that will be able to find your location without requiring verbal confirmation. Otherwise, the registered address on file will be used and emergency services will be dispatched to that location.
When we initially set up your VoIP account, we wil register your phone with 911 emergency services at the address you give us. If you move, you must notify us immediately by filling out this form. It is your responsibility to change or update your 911 Address when roaming/moving and returning to your regular address. If you have any questions, please contact WTC Customer Service.
